The best time to visit the park is in the month of March, when azaleas are out in full force and the park comes alive with vibrant colors. Summerville Farmer’s Market

If you are in Summerville, just take your bag or basket and visit the farmer’s market. The market may not be as huge as other farmer’s market but it has a great collection of food items and crafts. Formerly known as the Flowertown Fresh market, this market has all the items you need for your kitchen. From fruits, to vegetables, to meat, to fishes, to spices, they have almost everything you expect from a well-organized farmers market. Also, the fruits and vegetables available in the market are so big that you would be forced to think they are on steroids. However, this is not true because most items available in the market are organically grown.

Apart from offering fruits, vegetables, and spices, they also offer several homemade goods. Some homemade items you should checkout when you visit the market include jams, jellies, oils, crafts, clothing accessories, and several other creative items.

You can visit the market on Saturdays anytime between 8 am and 1 pm. The market starts in the month of April and closes in November. If you plan to take your vehicle to the market, you can park it in the free parking garage, which is next to the market. Since pets are allowed inside the market, you can take your pet along with you when you visit the market. Most vendors in the market accept both cash and credit card. If you plan to withdraw money from ATM, you can use the one which is right in the center of the market.

You also get sumptuous food at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday’s. You can grab a bite at a stall or visit the restaurant. Music lovers can enjoy live music from 10 am to 1 pm, as there are several artists performing on streets near the market.

Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site in Summerville

From 1690s to the starting of the Revolutionary War, Dorchester was a well-known trading town. It flourished along the River Ashley, inland from the colonial Charleston. The remains of the trading town are still preserved by the Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site. A visit to this park will give you a sneak peek in to the early history of the trading town Dorchester and the colonial South Carolina. Even though the town of Dorchester was abandoned at the start of the Revolutionary war, the town has not completely disappeared from the map. You can still see a few original structures when you visit the site. When you visit the site, you can stand below the remains of the bell tower, which is in the vicinity of St. George Anglican Church. During a low tide, you can also get a glimpse of the wharf made of wood. You must also check out the fort called tabby which is made of oyster shell concrete.

When you visit the Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site, you can watch the archaeologists unearth the history of people living in Dorchester. With the help of historical records, the site is able to paint a clearer picture of the life of people in American South, especially South Carolina.

You can visit this historic site anytime between 9 am and 6 pm during Daylight Saving Time. For remainder of the year, the park is open between 9 am and 5 pm. Youngsters and kids below the age don’t have to pay a fee to enter
the site. Also, senior citizens have to pay concessional fee to enter the site. Pets are allowed to enter most outdoor areas provided, they should be on a leash which is not more than 6 feet long. At times, you can sight animals such as white-tailed deer, American alligators, bald eagles, racoons, fox, and several species of hawks in the park.

Mason-The World’s Largest Sweet Tea In Summerville SC

If you have been to the south, you must be aware of the fact that sweet tea is an acceptable beverage option at any meal time – dinner, lunch, of breakfast! This sugary beverage not only refreshes you during hot summers but also during winters. In short, season does not decide when you should have your cup of sweet tea! No wonder sweet tea is also known as the Champagne of South.

If you are a fan of sweet tea, you probably know that Summerville was in the news for hosting the largest glass of sweet tea. On June 10, 2016, Summerville was visited by the people from The Guinness Book of World Records to check the specs of the largest glass of sweet tea. Incidentally, June 10, 2016, is also the National Iced Tea Day. The glass, which was constructed by Scout Boats, could hold up to 2,534 gallons of sweet tea.

So, what did it take to brew 2,534 gallons of sweet tea? The brew used more than 1,700 pounds of sugar and 210 pounds of loose tea-leaf. When brewing was complete, a party was held to celebrate their success. Most people living in Summerville come out to enjoy the party and to commemorate the occasion. Of course, sweet tea was served in abundance to quench everyone’s thirst. Even today, when you drive through Summerville, you will notice many sign boards that boast of their achievement.

This glass, which is affectionately named Mason, is over 15 feet tall. Tea leaves from the popular Charleston Tea foundation and sugar from Dixie Crystal was used to brew the sweet tea. The tea was brewed using SCE&G Natural Gas. So, if you are planning to visit Summerville, make sure you check out the largest glass of sweet tea. Mason stands tall at the 200 S Main Street.

Summerville Dorchester Museum

The museum is an educational institute that is dedicated to preserving and maintaining the historical significance of Dorchester County and Summerville. The mission of Summerville Dorchester Museum is to collect, exhibit, and preserve artifacts and to impart education that is related to the natural history and culture of Dorchester County and Summerville.

The museum was started by a group of citizens led by Robert Pratt. The group met for the first time on May 02, 1991. Soon the group started working on the museum and by December 1992, the renovated museum was opened. The museum is housed in an old Police Department Building.

If you are planning to take your own vehicle to the museum, you can use the additional parking that is available directly behind the museum. There is no entry fee for children below 3. For those between 4 to 12 years, you have to pay a concessional fee. Children above 12 years are treated at par with adults and there is no discount on their tickets. 

There is a special discount for students who visit the Museum with their teachers. Entry is free for teachers and up to 2 Chaperones per class. The museum can also be used for activities other than the official museum business. For this, you will have to pay a flat fee plus charges for every hour of usage.

The museum is not huge but they keep adding new items to ensure that people have something to look forward to when they visit the museum. When you visit the museum, don’t miss out the chance to learn out the journey of Summerville
from pre-historic time to the present. Also, make sure you check the schedule with kid’s activities, as they organize many educational and fun activities for kids. The volunteers and staff members are extremely helpful and may also offer guided tour of the museum.

How to Fix A Washer That Shakes and Moves

When a house appliance is broken, it can disturb your normal routine. At times, the residential appliance may move or vibrate, which can make it difficult for you to use the appliance. For instance, you may not be able to wash your clothes when the washing machine moves or vibrates. You could get help of a washer technician to troubleshoot the problem. Alternatively, you could try to repair or service the household appliance without any professional help. Here are the steps you could take to identify and troubleshoot the problem with the washer.

 

Shock Absorber

Most front-loading washers have shock absorbers that reduce the machine movement during the spin cycle. These shock absorbers are usually attached to the tub and the base frame of the machine. To assess the condition of this part, you must remove the rear or front panel of the machine. If you notice that the shock absorbers are damaged or broken, you must replace them immediately. If you don’t have the tools to replace the shocks, you can get help from a washer repairman.

When the shock absorbers are damaged, they will unbalance the loads and cause the washer to move or shake. The home appliance will make loud banging sound when the washtub rotates. If steps are not taken to troubleshoot the problem, it can damage other components.

Tub and Suspension Spring

Suspension springs of the washer are used either to stabilize the washer tub assembly to the base or to suspend the tub from the washer cabinet. These suspensions also absorb the vibrations of the washtub when the tub spins. When these springs are damaged, you can hear excessive noise from the home appliance during the spin cycle. To assess the condition of the suspension springs, you must remove the front or top outer panel of the washer. Visually inspect the springs and replace them, if necessary.

Snubber Ring

Some washers have a snubber ring that reduces vibration during the spin cycle. The ring is usually located at the bottom of the washer and it provides cushion to the tub support assembly and the washer base. When the ring wears out, it allows the washtub to move excessively, which can cause the washer to shake uncontrollably. To visually inspect the ring, you must remove the front panel. If you notice white dust on or near the ring, it indicates that the ring is worn out and must be replaced. To replace the ring, you must first remove the tub
springs.

Tub Dampening Strap

Some washers have straps that reduce vibration during the spin cycle. The straps are attached to the corner of the cabinet and top of the washtub. The straps are made of soft rubber that can wear out due to regular use. When the strap is worn out, the washtub can come in contact with the cabinet, which can cause the machine to shake. This can create loud banging sound. If the straps are damaged, you must replace all the straps at the same time. Changing the straps may not be easy, and it is in your interest to get help from a washer service
technician.
